ABOUT IALE

What Does IALE Do?

IALE encourages collaboration between landscape ecologists to  work together to develop theories, knowledge and tools that can help solve real landscape problems.

IALE Mission Statement

The International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) aims to develop landscape ecology as a scientific basic for analysis, planning and management of landscapes of the world.  IALE advances international co-operation and interdisciplinary synergism within the field, through scientific, scholarly, education and communication activities.

What is the Importance of IALE?

Concerns over the loss of native species both in Australia and world-wide means that land managers need to consider improved ways of managing landscapes. Conservation has to be interdisciplinary and future management has to be directed towards multiple and sustainable use of the land if it is to be effective.  Landscape ecology provides a set of theories that can help achieve this.  Members of IALE therefore have a critical role to play in conservation world-wide.
